Mass Effect: Jacobs Story for iPhone

Mass Effect is one of my favorite RPG’s of all time. Bioware and EA have now decided to move Mass Effect onto the rapidly growing iPhone. The strangest part of this announcement is that nothing has been said about a DS or PSP version. Are companies already starting to skip over the two handhelds for Steve Job’s sexy cell phone?

Just this week on Resumplaying Podcast Ep.2, we talked about whether gaming websites should cover the games that are released for the iPhone. While the poll was split down the middle, we all in the end thought they should be covered. This announcement proves this point without a doubt. Although the original Mass Effect was only released on Xbox 360, Mass Effect 2 has been confirmed for the PS3 as well. So one would think that if you were going to do a portable version of Mass Effect it would at least make an appearance on the PSP or DS. The DS and iPhone are so close in graphics and production that it would be easy to make the game for DS and port it over to iPhone. This game seems to be built from the ground up specifically for the iPhone. So it seems as though Bioware have actually skipped over the PSP and DS with one of their biggest franchises Sony and Nintendo have not responded on this issue yet but we will update you if the do.

Enough about industry junk. I bet your wondering what the heck this game is about. All that we know so far is that the game will be a top-down shooter and will serve as a prequel to Mass Effect 2. Showing you a little bit of backstory on some of the characters you will interact with in the console version. The best part is the 2 hour game will only set you back $2.99! No release date has been announced but since it is a prequel I am sure that this game will be part of the pre-release hype train for Mass Effect 2. One final note is along with Mass Effect, Bioware also hinted at Dragon Age getting this same iPhone treatment.

  1. The iPhone is starting to pack in more and more decent titles. I never thought the iPhone could harbour a top-down shooter of this calibre.
