Don’t Throw Your Wii Away Yet Hardcore Fans

This year’s E3 was a feast for the eyes, showing off some very impressive games for all three major home consoles. While the Microsoft and Sony E3 press conferences were stuffed full of gaming goodness, the Nintendo press conference seems to be left in the dust. If you actually look at what Nintendo has coming out for the “hardcore” you will realize they are doing a better job of tailoring towards that crowd that they have in the past. Don’t believe me? Then feast your eyes on this amazing list (in no particular order) that Nintendo has to offer for gamers like me and you (pointing my finger at you). I’m almost positive this list will have something for all gamers to enjoy, well, all gamers that aren’t worried about losing weight, waggling, or getting their heart rate checked.
Dead Space Extraction

I can hear people already, “the HD consoles get the pretty version, and we get the crappy on-rails shooter that blah blah blah.” You won’t have to worry much about that with this title. The first major feature to bring up with this title is the complete drop-in drop-out co-op which is a major plus, and an up on the HD consoles I might add. The atmosphere and graphics seems to not be taking a major hit making the jump to the less powerful system; it might actually surprise you a little bit. I’m sure if you liked the first Dead Space and want to learn more about the crazy ass spaceship Isaac was desperately trying to escape from, give this game a chance when it releases in North America on September 29th.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii

We already have written an impressions piece on this quirky new platformer from Nintendo here but could write about this game again and again. I remember fondly of playing some old school 2-player side-scroller games and having a blast doing it; throw in a couple more friends and you have the idea of how much fun this game can produce. The competitive modes sounds exciting to play as long as the game doesn’t become too hectic to the point where frustration starts to kick in. I’ve also got my fingers crossed that EVERY level will be able to be tackled with a partner helping you (think Little Big Planet for what I mean with that). I honestly cannot think of a single Mario platformer that I have played and not enjoyed. If you can think of one, let me know, but I’m sure it all boils down to preferences. Let’s hope this title turns out to be a holiday release and doesn’t get pushed back to 2010.
Dragon Quest X

If Dragon Quest IX wasn’t enough for the DS, Dragon Quest X got announced for the Wii. This shocked fans all over to see the return of this series to its original owners. The DS crowd has been getting bombarded with some amazing releases of IV, V, and VI (coming soon) and they don’t plan on stopping their either. No information has been released of this game thus far, but the announcement is enough to watch the fans bottle up their excitement for this game to be released… now, if only we could find out anything about this game…
Red Steel 2

Remember when you bought your Wii on its opening day and had to choose between a GameCube game (laughs) and this new IP that had sound potential. A large majority went with Twilight Princess, but some opted to try out a game that shows off more of the motion controls. Remember how disappointed you were that the motion controls on the Wii was next to unusable; Red Steel has big ideas but the unresponsive controls ultimately broke the game. Now, Nintendo has released their physical hardware patch to fix this problem and allow much greater precision with Wii Motionplus; and on top of that, another attempt at the Red Steel story. The game boils down to being able to shoot people and deflect bullets with a sword. Need I say more, you can check out my Red Steel impressions piece here.
Metroid Other M

Umm… what exactly this game is I have no idea, but best be damned it is giving to a good team that can spin this series off into a new direction. The Prime series had a great run, but I’m glad to see someone else take over it and be able to put their own spin on it (Castlevania = Hideo Kojima?). Just be happy we are still getting new Metroid titles and hope they can keep the series justice intact.
Muramasa: The Demon Blade
![]()
You’ve probably already seen me write about my love for Muramasa a while back so you can read detail about it there. Just know this game has huge potential and read my article if you need persuaded to check this side-scrolling action title.
Super Mario Galaxy 2

Do I even need to explain why this game is good. If you haven’t played the first Galaxy game, go pick it up. The sequel probably isn’t going to add too much to the already stellar gameplay (judging by the video that was shown) but why tamper a formula that is already this much fun. Yoshi should add some new elements to it, and we could use some new suits as well; maybe the penguin suit that was shown in the New Super Mario Bros. Wii trailer will make an appearance in this game as well. Mario fans will not be disappointed.
No More Heroes 2

Met with mixed reviews from the enthusiast press, this game should expand on its already stellar gameplay and should tighten up its control with Mii Motionplus. The game will continue the story of Travis Touchdown; with the sequel comes the addition of dual-wielding swords. Yet another game for you list (I hope you are keeping a list). No scheduled release date quite yet, but its rumored to be a 2010 release.
All these exclusives should be enough to wet your Nintendo appetite but if that isn’t enough, here are some more games for you to keep check with. There are more hardcore games for you to look out for, this is just a peak at what to expect in the coming months.

Beatles Rock Band

A Boy and His Blob

Silent Hill Shattered Memories (Fall 2009)

Guitar Hero 5

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Smash Up

Tony Hawk Ride

I was sure that Ninja Turtles Smash up was a Wii exclusive. And Sin & Punishment 2 IS a Wii exclusive. But the list is awesome.
You're right, i'll fix it real quick. thanks
Red Steel 2, Metroid M and Dead Space Extraction is where I'm puptting my money. All look like amazing games and I hope they get the sales they deserve.
New-Super-Mario-Brothers: Wii (best name ever) is what I'm getting. Otherwise my Wii will continue to collect dust (because I dun like waggle controls).
Still, a good lineup for Nintendo fans, and hopefully Nintendo can prove the gateway drug for a lot of people new to video-games
im going to get every game on this list exept the beattles RB Bcuz they suck
