Games We Want Sequels For

Looking at the release list for this year, you can see a trend on trying to squeeze as much out of an IP as developers/publishers can get out of it. While we do get games that some gamers might not want a sequel to (the outcry of Bioshock fans comes to mind) there are many games we would like to see the story continue for but still haven’t gotten. some of The staff collaborated and came up with their top three games they would like to see sequels made for. Check after the break for the full list, and don’t forget to let us know what you would like to see.
Stephen Rosenberg
The Legend of Dragoon
A completely under-rated and amazing turn-based RPG for the Playstation. Amazing game-play, graphics (for its times), awesome enemies, and great characters and development. I’ve been wishing for a sequel to this since I played the first one when it came out.
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
My favorite SNES game, and although they’ve made turned based Mario & Luigi games, I would much rather see a Nintendo/Square sequel involving Geno, Mallow, and possibly more Square-based characters. This game was amazing, and I feel like a sequel would be as well!
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
It is very likely that one of these will come out, and i hope it isn’t far off. This takes the cake as my favorite fighting game of all time, and I hope to God they decide to continue with plans of another sequel.

MediEvil
Being a sapling in the gaming world, I wasn’t familiar with the meaning of hype around games, the console wars, or even pricing and release dates at the age of around eight years old. However, after having been given waves of gift games for my Playstation One, I was finally ask what game I would like, and in within the pages of my first Playstation Magazine, I came across Medievil, the first game that got me hyped. The game is your standard action adventure title with plenty of puzzles and boss fights to boot. The game itself was set within the twisted and garish streets of Victorian London. Assuming the role of Sir Dan Fortesque, a brave knight resurrected after his fall in battle, you have to strike down hordes of zombies, crazy mages, and even man-eating pumpkins in the Medievil series. I know that a PSP remake of the first game was launched on the PSP, titled Medievil: Resurrection, but for a game so classic to the Sony platform, it definitely deserves a place on the Playstation 3.
If it were to be made, the game would take the sort of Heavenly Sword/ God of War approach to things, scrapping some of the clunky traits of the original game, and making it easier to pick up and play. Of course, Sir Dan would have to be the protagonist, and return with his crew, all equipped with respective voice talents. Playstation 3 could be the only option for the game because of its development origins, and it would preferably be made with Medieval London still in mind. If it were to be made, we could expect a mass of twisted NPCs, deluded enough to rival the likes of Bioshock in modern gaming. As in terms of development, it would be handled by one of Sony Studios, or possibly snapped up by one of the Sony’s many second parties (Naughty Dog, Insomniac, BigBig).
Monster Hunter
Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is the game that totally blew up the PSP for a lot of people, and those who had been fans of the series such as me weren’t anticipating Monster Hunter 2 G, we were all waiting on for Capcom to get Monster Hunter 3 on its way. However, one little hiccup down the line, and from going from a fully fledged Playstation 3 title that would be set to make as much impact as the portable version, a surprise Wii version was announced instead. Though it has been receiving a good reception, fans of the series who also own a Playstation 3 have been told recently that Capcom may in fact be making an MH3 for the system; the exact quotation of “Never say never,” was used. If the Monster Hunter franchise was to come to the Playstation 3, not a lot would have to change in terms of core gameplay. DLC would be a huge binding of the game, but the most anticipated feature would be online play. I cannot vent my rage at how idle Capcom have been without putting online into the PSP version, and making a PS3 version would definitely atone for that particular sin.
Online would be ushered in with 32-64 player sized lobbies which will also be cross-region if a PS3 version were to be made. The graphics would be notched up a small amount, but that’s not really the case with the Monster Hunter series. Apart from that, nothing would need to change; the community would develop itself, and the gameplay is already minted.
Timesplitters
During the early days of the Playstation 2, all I ever played were action platform games and pretty much nothing else, apart from the occasional bit of Smackdown. Timesplitters was the game that opened my eyes to the world of PS2 shooters, though I had been a bit of a Medal of Honour fan back in the day. The game crammed in so much hilarity and amazing shooting that I could literally play against bots for hours straight without the word bored even cropping up in my virtual dictionary. The story behind the games was deep enough to get people interested, and the actual game itself offered great graphics, great characters, and most of all; an unforgettable quick-play mode.
Of course, Timesplitters 4 was apparently in the works, but know we all know that Free Radical has closed its doors, I am desperate to see another developer take the helm of the legendary series. If it were to be picked up, it would mainly be aimed at the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC formats. The game would bring back our hero, Sergeant Cortez, along with a variety of quirky sidekicks including the masterful Harry Tipper, and the somewhat annoying Jo Beth. There is no doubt, that with the inclusion of wireless play, that Timesplitters 4 would simply ravage every online shooter if it were to be released. It would have to be fast paced, beautiful and hilarious as it was in the older titles. Modes such as Virus and Bag Tag would make a comeback, showing how online shooters should be. Of course, one thing the online would have to include is the addition of a levelling system and maybe customisable characters. If there was one thing I loved about Timesplitters 2, it was the mammoth roster of around 150 characters to play as in the quick-play. Of course there were a couple of clones, but each character had their own strengths, weaknesses and voice talents.

Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy to the American’s)
The game was great with its very strange and multiple endings, and what not. I’d love to see it on the PS3 along side Heavy Rain. Considering heavy rain is made by the same developers- I would want them to continue to make the sequel. The major thing that will be required to pull the game into this generation: graphics. The original graphics were great for the game when they first came out, but now I’m not so sure.
I live in hope!
Portal
Portal was a great puzzle game that granted you the ability to create portals where ever you fancied. Run through one and out the other, simple?! The game should be created by valve for all consoles. Though I would want it to be longer than the other, it only took a couple of hour to complete! I want to go back to strange and wonderful world of portal in a sequel.
The Darkness
Now, if the games were granted a sequel, then what new and hellish powers would developer Starbreeze add? The storyline in itself was pretty cool, with the story showing the assassination that ‘uncle Paulie’ left for him on the eve of his 21st. I’d say the game should be on the same consoles as the first and developed (of course) by the same developers. Perhaps they could add a much better, lag free multiplayer?

Breath of Fire 6
I would love to see Breath of Fire return to its colorful roots then the depressing gray underground labyrinth in 5; and of course actually being able to use dragon transformations whenever I want and no timer on the gameplay.
Megaman Legends 3
I still wanna know if Megaman can get off that planet he was stuck on!? Its been so many years there really needs to be a sequel to the awesome treasure hunting and battling giant mechs in high tech ruins while searching for treasure, it was priceless.
Xenosaga
With so many questions left unanswered at the end of Xenosaga episode 3 perhaps because the game was cut short 2 episodes. The game felt entirely incomplete and with that major cliffhanger at the end I want more, hopefully they will use a similar battles system from Xenosaga Episode 1.
Andi Bailey
Sonic (a good one)
I’d like to see a sequel to good old fashion Sonic the Hedgehog, like they did for Megaman 9, or New Super Mario Bros., except Sonic. Why? Why not? Sonic the Hedgehog used to be my hero, and you really cant top the good old fashion side scrolling adventures he used to have, so why not get some more of a good thing?
Marvel vs. Capcom
I’d also like to see a new Marvel Versus Capcom. Thank the lord the were getting 2 on PS3, but even more exciting then that would be getting a nice fresh new one, all nicely done like Street Fighter 4.
Shadow of the Colossus
Finally, I’d defiantly love to see a prequel to Shadow of the Colossus, the story in the game just grabbed me from start to finish and I really took something away from it, despite how simple it was. I solely want a prequel just to add on to the world and story that was presented in the game.

Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
I loved this series from its inception, and I feel it captured the feeling of the movie’s Lightsaber-Battles better than any game prior to, or after them. The force powers were well balanced and there was a feeling of power coupled with a sort of lonely helplessness that lent the games, especially the first two, a great atmosphere. Sure there have been multiple games in the series, but a true sequel to Jedi Outcast is what I’m really looking for, with as powerful a narrative, and similarly slick game-play.
Guild Wars
This may come as a surprise to some, but I actually got into an MMO once. Guild Wars was one of the most entertaining MMOs I have played, and that’s why I ended up playing for more than a week or two. The game didn’t have the same feeling of a constant grind that others did, and its ability to instance off your game allowed for a stronger narrative than any other MMO I’ve played. The variety of gear, coupled with some easy to pick up, yet hard to master combat, left me thoroughly entertained.
Warcraft 3
Again, another game in a series, but since the inception of WoW, the strategy aspect of the series seems to have been forgotten. The simplicity of the RPG elements and the entertainment of the Role-Playing elements, combined with a great story and wonderful lore to create one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time. I still go back to the game now, so many years after its release, and I truly hope that Blizzard finds time in their schedule, between finishing up Diablo 3 (also really excited), and making 3 StarCraft games, to revive the strategy side of the Warcraft universe.

WHAT ABOUT HALF-LIFE A.K.A. THE GREATEST GAME EVER??????
Dynasty Warriors!!!!
@Sebastain Maple
Guild Wars is getting a sequel. It's was announced a while ago:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guild_Wars_2
Warcraft IV is also in development. A developer accidentally let it slip at BlizzCon that the game was in development. He said that Starcraft II would be released in an episodic manner “much the same as WarCraft IV.”
I feel like a dumbass for forgetting Guild wars II. However, as for Warcraft IV, I heard that as well, but considering how many time I and others have sought verification and received none, I considered it to be more rumor than fact.
Still, I actually do appreciate your pointing that out, just one more thing for me to look forward to in the next few years.
I for one, didn't really like the Half Life games, Half Life 2 is much too overrated.
No Mother/Earthbound? FAIL.
What about Monster Rancher for PS3
all remade
or even just a ps1 download from psn with some improvements
I would get it.
they need to have timesplitters for the wii
I could see them making two new versions of the next Timesplitters; one engineered for the 360 and PS3, and one for the Wii, which of course would be a more cartoon-based shooter.
Thats a hell of a point. I would LOVE to see an earthbound Sequel.
