Brandy’s Weekly Randolist: 10 of the Nerdiest Coffee Tables
On my hunt for things to fill up my imaginary 18-bedroom geek mansion, I came across several awesome coffee tables. I tried to keep the list mostly video game related- but I’m such a sucker for geeky/nerdy stuff I had to share them all.
1. For my first coffee table- this has absolutely nothing to do with video games. At all… unless you have ever- no. No relation at all. But it’s super dorky, and I love it. A giant, Post It note coffee table!
2. Rubik’s Cube Coffee Table- a whopping $600. Very cool, but a little bit over priced. I’m sure you can make a functional one for about the same cost.
3. How about this fully functional giant arcade coffee table? This baby goes for $4900 or $4000 without the internal PC… so it’s definitely something for my 18-bedroom geek mansion whenever I get one.
4. Who, that could be reading this story, hasn’t played or at least heard of Pacman, right? This coffee table would be a simple, yet very tasteful addition to any nerd’s living room.
5. I actually stumbled upon this neat little Super Mario Bros 3 coffee table as a link from a CNN news report about Iraq. I’m not sure what in the world they have in common, but this is one of my favorite Mario games, and the table looks like an easy do-it-yourself project.
6. This is one of the more recognizable pixilated images in the video game world. A nifty little table with a ceramic top, this is sure to be a hit with your retro friends. Space Invaders for the win!
7. Who would have thought Pong would make for a great coffee table idea? Apparently these guys from Sparkfun Electronics did. They used 64 RGB serial matrices, 4 Atari controllers, and an LPC2106 dev board to create a cooperative game of Pong.
8. I almost didn’t include this one, because it’s not really a game- but then I realized the iPhone is now a console of the sorts, with it’s own line of games as crazy as that is… this table is cool either way. The icons also pop off and double as coasters!
9. Probably the easiest do-it-yourself on this entire list, the pinball coffee table is a win. There are dozens of directions to make this table, and why not? Everyone loves to play a mean pinball.
10. This is a one of a kind, fully functional giant NES controller turned coffee table. There’s even room to store stuff inside! The creator of this thing is after my own heart.
Be sure to join me next week as I hunt down the coolest system mods!

the pac-man and SMB3 are the best.
Hrm, the Invader tile tabe has “galaga” in the filename…odd that, heh. I like both games really, but love Galaga even though it's not really a skill game. More a pattern recognition game. Just memorize the next wave and you can get through it fairly easy. I'm nowhere near that, but if you memorize enough of the patterns, you loop back to the start and then you can keep rolling the score. Love crazy, marithon score arcade games~
Well, not sure how you knew that… but it's named that because I was going to put a Galaga table in to, and I found both pics on the same site, and when I went to save I got the filenames backwards. The Galaga table is names “spaceinvaderz” lol.
