E3 2008, Ubisoft announced an upcoming survival game titles “I Am Alive” with a interesting launch trailer included.

There, ladies & gentlemen, the press for this game halts. No trailers, no conference, nothing. All we get is a slow, and very vague, leaks of information of which I will now compile into something readable.

The game is to be developed by Ubisoft Shanghai,  after the first developer Darkwoods was dropped back in March, and is to be set in Chicago, roughly current time, after a crisis breaks out in the wake of a very heavy magnitude earthquake that effectively destroys the entire city. Only other development news is that it has been confirmed that the entire game will be built with the Unreal Engine 3.

That 40 minutes journey home just got a lot longer

You play as Adam Collins, an everyday guy, who is forced to adapt to survive in a city after the events of a 10.3 force indigo Earthquake. Everything is in ruins, the community is in panic, thousands are dead and thousands more are trapped in urban tombs of debris that once made up their very homes. In a city filled with fear & desperation, there is only one rule to this game; Survive, by any means necessary. In the trailer our hero Adam is shown outwitting former colleagues, maybe even friends, and luring them to their death by simply using an almost empty bottle of water. Demonstrating how the most simplest thing we have becomes the most important to these men as they chased, and where very like prepared to kill, their colleague for it.

Adam, to attract attention from rescue services sent by the government, begins a refugee camp in the middle of all the chaos. As Adam, you’ll have to locate resources of food & water. Save and organise survivors. Survive the chaos of the city, expect to see some sort of violent gang type enemy. Then as well, Adam will have a more personal goal he’ll be working towards. Locating his lost girlfriend, Alice, in the ruins of Chicago.

I Am Alive looks to me like one of those games that must be played. A game that from the very first day of development, the creators set out to be different, new, adventurous. The most recent game I can think of  would be the likes of Mirror’s Edge or LittleBigPlanet.

Unfortunately however, due to the changing of developers and lack there be of actual footage, I wouldn’t get your hopes on seeing this gem shine until mid 2010. God knows when you might actually get to play it.

Keep your eyes on this site as I’ll try to bring you more I Am Alive information as its released, whenever that is. :(
