Enemy Types That Never Get Old

Action/Adventure/FPS/RPG and so on could not exist without you killing/engaging some sort of enemy. Of course, games recycle enemies over and over again, but there are some that stand out and could possibly never get old. I’ve compiled a list here of enemy types that I truly believe could never grow stale as long as they keep evolving with the times and continue to consistently challenge us.

zombies

I’m sure all the investors out there are upset that they have not invested in zombie stock because the past couple of years it has shot through the roof. Zombies are what all the kids are into nowadays and are also invading video games as well. The thing that keeps zombies great are the range of attributes that can be distributed to them. Most recently Left 4 Dead had traditional zombies but also included some with crazy powers like dragging your helpless body hundreds of feet across the map. Zombies are cool and will continue to be because no matter how many times we kill them… they will always come back dead… wait?

Nazis

This is probably the most controversial one on the list but let history show how many games have been set in World War 2 and been absolutely fantastic; and yes I mean the good ones and not the stinkers. I don’t see WW2 games going anywhere soon because although we’ve played through it so many times, there is still so much that can be done with it, many more places to explore, and many more Nazis to battle with and teabag your way to victory.

Nazi Zombies

This just seems like a given to me.

Dinosaurs

I don’t know what it is about Dinosaurs that just builds more tension when you see them. Maybe it has to do with them having the ability to easily rip your character to shreds in just one bite. Games involving Dinosaurs are on a steady decline (which means Turok or Dino Crisis isn’t popular anymore) but I’m sure I’m not the only that would love to see them be used more in video games; there are many different types to choose from that would provide a high degree of diversity. Killing Dinosaurs is awesome and whats even better is being able to watch them kill each other. Who’s with me on this one?

Robot

Who doesn’t like taking a robot out with some weapons that can be help with your character hands. What’s even better is taking down a robot while piloting a robot. Probably the most creative enemies in video games, robots can do basically anything as long as they are built for it; I mean if Metal Gear can prove anything, you can equip them to destroy the entire world. Robots are another enemy type that don’t get the justice they deserve and need to be placed in more games.

Devils

How creepy is it when you going through the last cave and know that a devil is anxiously waiting on you at the end? How awesome is summoning Diablo in a Final Fantasy game to be met with complete chaos? How awesome is the game Diablo? Devils can be either small and annoying critters or large in scope and make you start thinking if you have the talent yet to take down the lord of darkness. You can guarantee one thing though, the fight with the devil will be grand and keep you on the edge of your seat until its over.

Douchebags

Isn’t it always great when you have this douchebag character that you actually get the opportunity to kill. It’s always a typical guy claiming he is better than you the entire game; “oh you rescued the princess… well, I rescued twelve princesses and drove them with my way nicer car to my much cooler house partying all night discussing how I was the best thing my high school has ever seen.” Why I claim they will never get old is that satisfaction you get when you know the next part of the game involves you chasing said character down and beating him down.

aliens

Why is it that alien life always wants to come to our planet and kick the crap out of us. They have the power to space travel, but always stop by our planet to try to destroy humanity. They are also equipped with weapons we’ve never seen before that always seem to disintegrate whatever it touches. Aliens will always be popular because they can be whatever the minds of the developers make them out to become.
