For some of you this may be old news, but I was literally dumb struck with awe when I read this. Apparently a US Postal Service worker was caught stealing $86,000 dollars worth of GameFly games on there way to their respective customers.

34 year old Reginald Johnson was caught with a duffel bag containing 81 stolen GameFly mailings and a second bag stuffed with an additional 79. He later confessed to stealing a grand total of 2,200 games between April and September of 2008.

Johnson was allegedly stealing the games and then trading them in. Multiple GameStop receipts were found in his vehicle along with 5 copies of Wii Sports, three of Wii Fit, and a PlayStation complete with some extra controllers.

After receiving reports of missing games in late 2007 an investigation was conducted using test mailings that eventually led to Johnson’s arrest. He now faces 12 to 18 months in prison.

If you didn’t know, GameFly is a website that specializes in renting games over the internet by mail. Customers can then hold on to the games as long as they want, eventually mailing them back in pre-paid envelopes to receive the next game they have waiting in line. Unless of course your games are shanghaied by USPS video game pirates.

Its absolutely mind boggling that someone could think that they could steal over 2000 games, at a such a high value, and nobody would notice. Hopefully his jail time will allow him to get acquainted with the idea of buying video games like the rest of us.

Johnson is now employed at Hatfield Quality Meats in Lansdale, where the only thing he’ll be stealing is a healthy iron intake.
