Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (Movie) Trailer

In case you haven’t already seen it, the first official trailer for the upcoming Prince of Persia: Sands of Time film was just released. It stars Jake Gyllenhaal as The Prince and Ben Kingsley as, I can only assume the, The Vizier; the film releases in May 2010.

Initial impressions are actually quite good. I really love the Prince of Persia series and have been playing them since the original 2-D platformer; as such, I’ll probably be seeing it regardless of its finished quality. The film was made by the same folks who created Pirates of the Caribbean, so it seems that they at least know what they are doing when it comes to fun adventure movies. Looking at the trailer, I’d say that they have a fair bit of acrobatics and wall running, as is expected of anything associated with the Prince of Persia. I was extremely skeptical of Jake Gyllenhaal’s ability to accurately portray The Prince, but then again I was also very skeptical of Heath Ledger when he was announced as The Joker, so I’ll give Donnie Darko a chance. He seems to do a good job of keeping up the Prince’s dry wit and looks the part (despite his outfit fitting more into the Warrior Within time-frame). One thing irks me though; it seems that Disney felt it was necessary to name him “Dastan” rather than simply “The Prince.” I know it is being nit-picky, but if that were a post on Facebook, I would heartily wish there were a dislike button. It is a video game movie though, and as with every video game movie, us gamers have to take everything we see with a grain of salt, knowing full-well that Hollywood will rape the game franchise for everything it can. At least the name Uwe Boll doesn’t appear anywhere near it (Two Resumeplay.net jokes about Uwe Boll in one week? BAM!). I’m sure I won’t be the only one looking forward to its release next May, although I’ll keep my dagger of time ready in case it sucks; that way I’ll at least be able to go back in time and stop myself from watching it.

The first one is going to be junk, but once we get into more mature Prince of Persia (the last two game installments) I think we can expect it to be better, as their more movie friendly.

The man deserves nothing else than to be shot for his ignorant lack of talent in film. The tech class around the corner from my clincal science class agrees, fultures standing over my shoulder asking to many questions ¬_¬
