iHooy – Review (iPhone)

Since I sold my soul to AT&T for the iPhone, I’ve been building a collection of apps and games from the infamous Apple App Store. I recently bought a new game named iHooy which was developed by Braineaters, an independent developer in Poland. This game is based on the history of the greatest hero, Hooy Ventura, who has been thrown into an ongoing war against bombiez and is the last line of defense for humanity. Are you up for the challenge? The mission is simple: to destroy bombiez and save innocent citizens. Your weapons of choice are the crumplers; giving you the ability to smash bombiez with a press of a button.
After the loading screen and the acceptance of the mission, you are shown a map of where you are to be sent for training. In Bralasca, you are trained to get used to the controls and the sudden influx of bombiez. From there, the difficulty level increases with each mission across the country. The metal crumplers allow you to destroy the bombiez as they are attacking. I found that you had to have pretty good timing with pressing the button or they would simply jump over the crumpler and smash the barricades. If you don’t slide open the chutes for the survivors, they smash into the wall and die horribly. Their blood covers your controls that serve as a reminder to slide with good timing. Speaking of good timing skills, this type of gameplay is a workout for your hand-eye coordination. The controls are in a good position to use with either both hands or even just one, especially if you’re incredibly coordinated as I am not. I adapted to the press, double slide, press strategy but was overwhelmed when I found that my own hand-eye coordination was very flawed.
The build of the game is great: the art, soundtrack and storyline work well together to all
ow you to exercise your mind, eyes and coordination skills with fun. The art tells the story and gets the job done well. I liked the map idea because it gave you the choice of playing a previous mission again and again. This allows you to head back to a mission to try to beat your other scores and gain more skills by using your brain a bit more. I am a very competitive person and this basically feeds my ego pretty well by allowing me to perfect my score. The music only intensifies the gameplay and gets you in the mood to keep smashing some bombiez. I must admit that the iHooy website was right when they said the music would either make you laugh, cry or both; I did, indeed, laugh and cry.
This game has a medium replayability factor and gives you a major hand-eye workout, but can be seen as repetitive. I think I’m getting cramps in my eyes from it, but I must keep playing…must keep playing. The iPhone makes for the one of the better platforms to play this game on, because of the touch screen features. I suggest trying the other game mode, Till We Die at least once. It’s recommended for the best players and will cause you to lose track of time. I seriously don’t remember how I played this game for an hour. Overall, this is a great game to have and it’s sold at a great price on the Apple App Store.
