Epic Mickey—A Much Needed Update
I hope that everyone has been trying to keep track of Epic Mickey. I was already excited after reading some of the game info and going through the art. I’m now even more excited that it has a set storyline and a release date. Hit the link for more!
Epic Mickey is really starting to shape up into, well…an epic game. A bit more story details and gameplay details are making me say this. Before reading, always remember that this news could be subject to change as more details and confirmed news come to light before Epic Mickey’s SEPTEMBER 16, 2010 release. Yes that was put in bold to get your attention.
The story: seems Yen Sid, the powerful wizard that taught Mickey magic, decided to make a Disney theme park in another world for the forgotten and rejected Disney creations. This world could only be accessed by a special mirror, one that Mickey happens to go through. Unfortunately, Mickey’s curiosity happens to cause a spill of paint and thinner, creating the Phantom Blot. Mickey leaves before realizing this, and Yen Sid never catches on.
The Blot goes on to take over the Disney Wasteland. While Oswald and the others fought their hardest, they were not able to stop The Phantom Blot. They, along with the land itself, are twisted into dark versions of themselves while Oswald goes into hiding. Years later, Mickey’s unknown past actions come back to haunt him.
His mirror drags Mickey into the cartoon wasteland. Oswald’s loss of will, depression, and jealously have twisted himself into an evil version, hoping to destroy Mickey and gain his popularity for himself. The Mad Doctor and Phantom Blot work together, making robotic versions of Mickey’s friends for Oswald. Now Mickey has to somehow gain the trust of his “half-brother” Oswald to save the Wasteland and put a stop to the Blot.

Thus far, it seems that the game will be mostly a platformer with some RPG elements. These, along with some moral choices are making the game be semi-compared to Spider-Man: Web of Shadows. Depending on what is done, Mickey will be hailed as a Hero or a Scrapper. This will open up different paths, choices, side quests, allies, and even bosses depending on which one the player goes with.
Mickey’s main weapon, as anyone could have guessed, will be a magic paint brush of sorts. He’ll have access to (in a limited reserve) paint and thinner. Paint can be used to create objects to pass through the levels, while thinner will destroy enemies and obstacles. Mickey also has sketches that do various things, like a clock that can slow down time.
Of course, there will be various enemies for Mickey to fight. The Phantom Blot has many blot-like henchmen through the wasteland, such as Blotlings and Spatters. Blotlings are your run of the mill cronies, while Spatters can be taken out by destroying them, or making them friendly. The Mad Doctor also has his robotic abominations that are immune to paint and thinner, therefore having to be taken out in different ways. Finally, Oswald’s children will impeded progress, though more because they LOVE their Uncle Mickey and like to cling to him.
By this point, I honestly think Epic Mickey is one of those games that make the Wii worth buying. Hopefully it won’t disappoint and can be added to my list of Wii games to finally own. For now Gamers, keep on gaming and keep check for the latest news!
