Mass Effect 2: The Classes Detailed

Over the past few months Bioware has been releasing short videos showing off the player classes of Mass Effect 2. Not only are all of the classes different but they have really built upon the biotics and equipment available to the player. Even from these short 2 min videos you can see just how much the combat has improved from the first game. There are 6 available classes to choose from, Adept, Engineer, Infiltrator, Sentinel, Soldier, and Vanguard.

Hit the jump to see details on all 6 classes!

Adept

First up is the Adept. This class is all about strategy and using your biotic powers to control the battlefield. The Adept has a biotic burst of energy that can curve around obstructions to hit its targets from afar or if your of the up close and personal variety the Adept is even deadlier. With the ability to put a singularity down in the middle of a skirmish and suck in your enemies, this class seems to be one of the more creative of the bunch. Another thing we learned from this video is that biotic powers can be used on an enemy more than once with dramatic effects.

Engineer

The Engineer class is all about using tech powers to control the battle. With abilities like a combat drone that can be summoned to draw fire away from you and the ability to hack mechanized enemies turning them into your ally. Another cool feature is the overload, incinerate, and freeze abilities. These are high powered attacks that can stop enemies in their tracks.

Infiltrator

Ahh yes the Infiltrator, this is the class I chose for Mass Effect 1 and will probably continue to use for my first play-through of Mass Effect 2. The Infiltrator is all about stealth and long range combat. With a cloaking ability that lets you go invisible for a period of time to line up that sniper shot or to gain better ground strategically. Also available to this class are some of the tech powers from the Engineer class which help give the player another means to deal destruction. So if you like to play stealthy then this is the class for you.

Sentinel

The Sentinel is the most versatile class in Mass Effect 2. It’s the only class with access to both biotic and tech powers. It also has the tech shield which can take enormous amounts of damage, when the shield is depleted it sends out a shockwave of energy knocking down any enemies with it. The ability to combine all these things together proves to be a deadly combination and a great class for those of you who fall in the “Lone Wolf” category.

Soldier

Guns, guns, and more guns. The Soldier class is all about overpowering your enemy with a huge array of weapons. Soldiers have access to every weapon type including the Assault Rifle. They also have access to all the different ammo types: incinerate, overload, and freeze. Also available to the soldier class are two powerups: Concussive Shot and Adrenaline Rush. The Concussive shot is a huge power burst that destroys enemies quickly and the Adrenaline rush gives you a quick damage and health boost to overpower large foes.

Vanguard

The Vanguard class is all about close range combat and biotic powers. It also has one of the coolest abilities I have ever seen in a game called the biotic charge. Biotic Charge allows the player to basically shoot forward like a missile at a enemy. The best part though is that you can charge right through solid objects, making this power great for getting at enemies hiding around corners or getting out of a sticky situation.

So there you have it. All the classes for Mass Effect 2 in detail with video. Now the only question that remains is what class will you play?
