Change is in the Air

Its been just about about 5 years since the Xbox 360 was released and 4 years since Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii have been on store shelves.  Some are already talking about the announcement of the eighth generation console(s) coming as soon as this E3; some say it’ll happen next year and few say it might not even happen anytime soon.  Either way — new consoles or not — change is always coming.  With Sony repeating the idea that they are “future proof”, and as expensive as their console is (or ‘was’ depending on your preference) you can count on it lasting you for at least a decade. I think it’s safe to say there won’t be an announcement from Sony anytime soon for a Playstation 4 and Nintendo seems to be content with their stance in the market at the moment.  So if there was an announcement of a new console coming soon most will suspect it will be Microsoft; while many beg to differ with the approach of the “Natal”  release and some speculate that it wouldn’t be that far-fetched of an idea if Microsoft was already planning on a next-gen console to release as soon as 2011 or 2012 with Natal compatibility.

New Tiger Woods 11 Details & Screenshots

Well, lets go ahead and get the big news out of the way which is the support for the PlayStation 3 Motion Controller. Tiger Woods already has a firm release date of June 8th (My B-day :) ) coming out on the Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, and iPhone. Also included is the game which is the chance to bring home the Ryder Cup; I don’t know much about sports but it seems to be a big deal in the sport of Golf. Tiger Woods seems to be a great game on about any system it comes out for and should continue with this entry. Oh one more thing to note is that Rory McIlroy will be sharing the cover of the game; I’m sure it has nothing to do with the recent scandals surrounding Tiger… I’m sure of it. Check after the break for screenshots from the game and a video showcasing how to use the Wii version with the WiiMote.

Street Fighter IV for iPhone News and Screens

The last game I ever thought I would see on the iPhone is Street Fighter. Street Fighter games have always required precision control with a arcade stick and even the feel of the buttons is important. One of the iPhone’s biggest flaws as a gaming console is its virtual joystick. There have been a few games that have made it bearable but for the most part it just doesn’t cut it.

Capcom has recreated the control scheme specifically for the iPhone. If there is anyone who can get this right it’s Capcom and Street Fighter. Street Fighter is also known for its multiplayer and this version will be no different. You will be able to face off against your friends while connected via bluetooth. This is another must and will also be interesting to see how much or if any lag is present.

The following characters will be playable: Ryu, Ken, M. Bison, Chun-Li, Guile, Dhalsim, Abel and Blanka. There will be 7 locations to play in and you will be able to move the buttons anywhere you want them on the screen. Check out the screenshots below!

Final Fantasy I and II Releasing On iPhone Today

Today is a great day to be a Final Fantasy fan and own an iPhone because the first two in the series are available in the Apps Store for $8.99 a piece. There might be other games in the series that I would have chosen over these (4-6 that is) but this is still a pretty sweet deal on these games. The only thing you have to get around is the fact that these games are incredibly dated, and the first Final Fantasy has an extremely weak story. While they might be old, they definitely don’t look it featuring updates to the graphics, sounds and control to utilize the potential of the iPhone/iPod Touch.

If this isn’t enough to excite you, Square Enix has cut prices on five other games they have up in the store including Crystal Defenders, Vanguard Storm, Sliding Heroes, Hills and Rivers Remain, and Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes – Encore. I suggest everyone and check some of these games out, especially at their cheaper prices.

Machines win Indie Game Challenge!

The Indie Game Challenge was a brand new competition this year with big stakes involved: the two top teams each recieved a whopping $100,000, and the chance to meet with game publishers to make further deals. The results were announced last Friday night, and the winners sound eerily similar.

Resident Evil 4: For Beginners Released Today For iPhone/iPod Touch

Developers are still working on refining the control system of the touch screen on Apple’s popular phone/iPod. Capcom is taking a stab at it with releasing this bite sized version of Resident Evil 4. The game is called Resident Evil 4: For Beginners, which contains the first two chapters from the actual retail release of Resident Evil 4 as well as a whole new tutorial level; which I’m sure teaches you the new control scheme. The game is fairly cheap at only $.99 and you at a later date be able to download the rest of the chapters as DLC, or you can purchase the full game and receive the later chapters as DLC.

If they port any Resident Evil game to the iPhone, I’m glad that it’s this one which is the best in the series. The game features Multi-Touch controls, but it does look to have the virtual joystick which only works about half the time; but they might have refined it in this release. The game is basically a straight port of the RE4; seeing this on the iPhone is actually very exciting and could open up more ports of other games that could work as well. Go give it a shot, I’m sure it’s worth your ninety-nine pennies.

Got An iPhone/iPod Touch, Buy Plants vs. Zombies Now

Today, PopCap releases in my opinion its greatest game to date on the iPhone for a mere $2.99. Yes, PC gamers paid $10-$20 but even that was definitely worth its price. This is an amazing tower defense games that rivals any in the genre as the best of the best. I’ve had a chance to play some of the game and I can safely say the transition from mouse to thumbs and fingers works perfectly, even if your hands obstruct the view at times. The only noticeable feature missing is the Zen garden which might upset a few but does not hurt the experience one bit. Yes I sound like I’m inflating the game a bit too much, but if you have played it you understand right where I’m coming from. I can’t say it enough, go buy this game now and witness PopCap at its finest.

Games This Week: January 25th – January 31st

Well this week there are a TON of games getting released along with a couple of DLC packs. The biggest being Mass Effect 2, MAG and the first DLC for Assassin’s Creed II. I personally have been looking forward to ME2 for a long time and all these other games are getting put on hold for that. Although if you have a PS3 MAG is definitely worth looking into. Since it is a game based around online multiplayer it would probably be a good idea to wait a week or so to jump in because there will more than likely be server issues. On the Wii side of things we have the fan favorite No More Heroes 2. So for you Wii fans heres a hardcore game that might pull you away from wii fit and whatever else it is you do with that thing… Check out the rest of the games below!

Plants vs Zombies Coming to iPhone in January

Yep, you read that right. Pop Cap’s crazy addicting tower defense game is coming to the iPhone in late January. It’s not like we didn’t see this coming, With other Pop Cap games such as Peggle and Bejeweled already on the iPhone, its no surprise that this game is making the jump. Not to mention that it’s controls will translate very well to the platform. So if you haven’t played it yet this seems like a great way to experience the greatness that is PvZ. Check back after the release for the review!

iHooy – Review (iPhone)

iHooy1_1

Since I sold my soul to AT&T for the iPhone, I’ve been building a collection of apps and games from the infamous Apple App Store. I recently bought a new game named iHooy which was developed by Braineaters, an independent developer in Poland. This game is based on the history of the greatest hero, Hooy Ventura, who has been thrown into an ongoing war against bombiez and is the last line of defense for humanity. Are you up for the challenge? The mission is simple: to destroy bombiez and save innocent citizens. Your weapons of choice are the crumplers; giving you the ability to smash bombiez with a press of a button. +Continue Reading

5 Great Tower Defense Games You Need to Play

pjm

Where did all the kart racers go? Those are a thing of the past that were only good for “driving” your series into the ground. The Tower Defense genre has quickly risen and became an ever so popular genre for both audiences (hardcore and casual). Now don’t get me wrong, there is a ton of these types of games out there are for the most part, they aren’t all great. I’ve compiled a list here of my five favorites in the genre that I believe will turn you into a believer of tower defense games, be it over saturated or not. The list is in no particular order.
