So here was something interesting that sort of pertains to video games; Rising Star Games, the makers of Half-Minute Hero has announced today ‘Half-Minute HerOLLs.’ This is a four-part audio experiment that is set out to create the world’s fastest gaming news… huh? This experiment will be running for four weeks from 9th February until the 8th of March, and it will combine all the weeks news in a short 30 second segment. The show will be available free to One Life Left iTunes subscribers every Tuesday morning and you will also be able to stream it from Rising Star Games Hoshi site at www.risingstargames.com/hoshi. We should have seen this coming with the second installment of Indiana Jones, LEGO Star Wars is getting its next chapter centered around the Clone Wars. The press release from today claims it will have brand new gameplay and it will be the most action-packed LEGO game to date. Now I’m not one to complain, but I do believe I have played a large portion of these games and they are all basically the same thing with different skins, but I’m always up for trying new things, so hopefully this won’t disappoint. +Continue Reading
Sony showed ModNation Racers off last year at E3 and it was very well accepted. It was basically marketed as Little Big Planet the Cart Racer. Giving players the ability to create and share their own custom tracks over PSN. Now a PSP version will be hitting the shelves side by side with its big brother. Both games will also share content across the PSN. Meaning if you create a track on your PSP, you and your friends will be able to race and play that same level on your PS3. This sounds like a great idea and I might actually pick this up. I am in dire need of a reason to pick up my PSP again.
Not much going on this week in the land of video games. While there aren’t many games releasing there are still a few of them that are worth checking out. Star Trek Online, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. , and White Knight Chronicles are all fairly big releases and all have the potential to be great games. Although, it might be best to save your money for next week considering that Bioshock 2 and Dante’s Inferno are both releasing!
Well this week there are a TON of games getting released along with a couple of DLC packs. The biggest being Mass Effect 2, MAG and the first DLC for Assassin’s Creed II. I personally have been looking forward to ME2 for a long time and all these other games are getting put on hold for that. Although if you have a PS3 MAG is definitely worth looking into. Since it is a game based around online multiplayer it would probably be a good idea to wait a week or so to jump in because there will more than likely be server issues. On the Wii side of things we have the fan favorite No More Heroes 2. So for you Wii fans heres a hardcore game that might pull you away from wii fit and whatever else it is you do with that thing… Check out the rest of the games below!
This week’s games have a little something for everyone. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney for the Wii, The Sims 2: Fun with Pets for PC, and of course Army of Two 40th Day for Xbox 360 and PS3. Another notable game releasing is Serious Sam HD for Xbox 360. This is just the beginning of a crazy next few months so get your wallets ready!

As a PSP only title this game looks pretty amazing. When Peace Walker was first publicly announced just last E3 we were treated with a trailer that showed off the games impressive visuals and story; which is taking place after the last PSP Metal Gear title Portable Ops. We follow Naked Snake, or Big Boss, on an adventure to save Costa Rica from an unknown military force that has established a presence within their land. After leaving the CIA special Units FOX and founding FOXHOUND Snake is now staying in Columbia where he started a new group known as Militaires Sans Frontières (Soldiers Without Borders).
Baseball season is fast approaching and so are the games that simulate the sport. Easily the best baseball game available, MLB The Show is going to be releasing the same day as its main competition the 2K series on March 2nd. The Sony exclusive game also got its cover athlete in Joe Mauer who is the Catcher for the Minnesota Twins. I personally love The Show and even though I don’t own a PS3 the PSP version is far and away better than anything the 2K series does on ANY console.
For the first time last night I watched the Spike Video Game Award show. I had avoided it up until now and the only thing that pulled me in to watch this year were some of the surprise game announcements. There were quite a few first look trailers from some very big games coming in 2010. For the entire list of award winners and to check out the trailers hit the JUMP!
Good ol’ portable gaming. When has a portable system not been handy? Every incarnation of the GameBoy has gone with me everywhere. Christmas with the family, Thanksgiving with the family, long car rides, horrible shopping trips; my handheld has always kept me entertained. Yet, sometimes it’s hard to find a good game for it. Thus, I have decided to compile my own list of the upcoming DS and PSP games to watch out for. At least in my opinion that is, so hit the link to read on!
When the first game in the Persona series was released in 1996, western video-game fans had just begun accepting the basic tenants of the JRPG, and it was for this reason that the game was such a shock to the system. It flouted most of the conventions so present in the genre, and as such was both embraced by those seeking a change of pace, and dismissed by others too befuddled by the changes it made to the classic JRPG formula. Now, 13 years later, the game presents an experience that is as unique now as it was on its release.
Announced in the wake of Metal Gear Solid: Rising, Peace Walker is the canonical sequel to PSP’s Portable Ops. It moves on four years from the events at the San Hieronymo Peninsula to 1974. Now more grizzly than ever, Big Boss is in Costa Rica as the head of a mercenary group called ‘Militaires Sans Frontières’. A French translation of ‘military without borders’. As Costa Rica had no military at the time, it was seen as easy pickings. An uknown military power takes over, and it’s up to Big Boss to save the day.
The PSP Go seems to have a lot going for it. Rumors were abound for it leading up to E3 where the Go was first announced along with its many new features. I for one am looking forward to the device but I’m stumped at some of the decisions made for it. Let’s take a look at five different reasons that’s holding the PSP Go back from being what it needs to be to capture the audience it’s reaching for. I want to also add that this is an opinion piece of mine and does not reflect the opinions of the other staff members. +Continue Reading
What a year gaming has been for us. We have seen some fantastic new ideas these past couple of years but there is no denying the fact that retro ideas play a huge effect in new concepts. One of the strange things that is happening is the comeback of 2-D fighting games and true adventure games. These genres just recently started showing back up with re-releases and entirely new games to further help keep retro games alive. +Continue Reading
Anyone that knows me, knows that from October to July I am engulfed in NBA basketball. This is no exception for video games. In celebration of the 2009 draft, this is a great topic. I have owned NBA live games dating back to NBA Live ‘95 for SNES (and I still have it!). Last year, EA shocked the sporting games world with the introduction of “dynamic DNA” to NBA live 2009. When I saw press conference and videos, I was sold immediately and bought the game on the day it was released. Dynamic DNA updated players statuses, injuries, trades, and playing habits onto your console after every single game, and every single press release. This was a giant and necessary step for sports games, but there are still a ton of problems that I hope to see (and have been vaguely assured by EA’s Marcus Stephenson) fixed in Live 2010. +Continue Reading
