Resident Evil 5: Downloadable Episodes Review

Resident Evil 5 came out a year ago, and was generally well-met and well-reviewed. Some people took issue with the changes it brought to the series, dropping the puzzles, death traps, and scares for a focus on co-op and 3rd-person action. Capcom has finally released the two downloadable chapters for the game, Desperate Escape and Lost in Nightmares, and they couldn’t be more different. The former is an action-packed thrill ride, and is more intense and difficult than most of the original game. But Lost in Nightmares is the opposite; stripping away the action to give a retro-experience that is finally scary again.

Review: Major League Baseball 2K10

It’s that time of year again, baseball season. The last few years the two baseball games available, Sony’s MLB The Show and the cross-platform MLB 2K have competed for your hard earned cash. Sony and The Show series have made some of the best sports games ever with all their little details that make the experience great. 2K has struggled the past few years with getting a good base to build the franchise off of. In 2K8 they introduced the pitching and hitting with the right stick. This wasn’t bad in 2K8, being that it was their first year with it. 2K9 however took a step backwards making the right stick controls way too easy. There were other issues like frame-rate and the lack of the My Player mode that the 2K basketball games and MLB The Show have. Were these things fixed?

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Review (Xbox 360)

Bad Company 2 has some serious competition, having arrived after the likes of the Modern Warfare series and the epic story that it told through the single player. Bad Company is up for the challenge, making a game that is vastly superior to the first while poking fun of the competition which helps set the mood that is the Bad Company atmosphere. Dice knows how to make a fun multiplayer experience, but the single player of the first bogged the title down and didn’t make the dent it needed to be that great title that gamers talk about for years. I can safely say Bad Company 2 is overall a better game, making the story more enjoyable to play through and creating a new layer to the multiplayer to keep you coming back for more.

MLB 10: The Show Review

It’s that time of year again! The sun shines a little brighter, the chill of winter slowly recedes, and we once again get ready for America’s favorite past-time to begin. That is right, I am talking about baseball. While I am not exactly sure how true that is anymore, there are still quite a few people who get anxious for the season to start again. I happen to be one of those.

Napoleon: Total War – Review (PC)

As the game loaded, a familiar icon showed on the screen. I loved playing Sonic 2 on Genesis, so naturally I missed hearing a chorus of people saying “Sega”. It reminded me of the many hours I spent playing it, so I figured that I’d be playing this game a lot. Developed by The Creative Assembly and published by Sega, Napoleon: Total War is a strategy and real-time tactics game which focuses on the 19th century. It is the 6th installment in the Total War series and follows successful predecessors, Empire: Total War and Medieval: Total War. +Continue Reading

Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce Review (PS3)

Dynasty Warriors fans are like New York Knicks fans. They seem to think that no matter what the franchise can put together, it is going to turn them into a contender again. I used to be on the Dynasty Warriors band-wagon. I think we all were when it made the jump to new 3D graphics on the Ps2. That was only…what? nine games ago? Maybe more…I’ve lost count. But alas, once again it has been brought to my attention that this new Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce would be the game that puts the franchise back on the map and into game contention again…and once again I have been lied to. +Continue Reading

Pokemon: HeartGold Review

My return to Johto was an eventful one. I laughed, cried, screamed, and passed out more than a few times, but in the end, came to a conclusion that was rather surprising…So, is it still heart-worthy nearly a decade later? Hit the jump to find out…

Review—Age of Zombies

Age of Zombies is one of those kinds of games that started with Asteroids: shoot at enemies in swarming directions.  Of course they’ve evolved since then, and Age of Zombies fits rather nicely into this niche.  However, I wouldn’t exactly say it’s a good representation of the genre.  Hit the link for more.

Review: The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom

The trick about making a puzzle/platformer with a new twist is two-fold: one, the developer has to make the puzzles hard enough to challenge the gamer, but also not so impossible to make the gamer quit in frustration.  Two, the twist has to be something simple enough to succeed, but new enough to be fresh to a quickeningly stale gaming commmunity.  The Odd Gentlemen, the freshman studio behind Winterbottom’s development, clearly understands this formula- despite making their own subtle modifications.   Hit the jump, Buttwit, for ResumePlay’s review of XBLA’s pie-stealing, silent film era art game, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom.

Greed Corp XBLA review

Greed Corps is a RTS for XBLA that is unique in many ways. It creates tension in the game by forcing players to deal with terrain that is, well, destroying itself. Wholly an endurance game, and set up for multiplayer use, it is intriguing and unfortunately flawed.

Heavy Rain Review.

Heavy Rain immediately makes you realize this isn’t just any other game. During the install it will have you make your own little origami figure with a supplied, bloody piece of paper. Which, I might add, is the most creative way I’ve ever seen an install used.

Of course, that’s just the install. Heavy Rain is essentially one big quick-time event- even when you have full control over your character you’re doing quick-time button presses to interact with the environment.  What makes it so interesting is the button presses will strain your hands sometimes, which make it feel like you’re actually struggling with climbing a hill, or pushing an attacker.

Darwinia+ Review (XBLA)

Darwinia, as a PC game, has been around since 2005 on both Mac and Windows systems.  It has garnered quite the cult following, which prompted developer Introversion Software to remodel the game, and its multiplayer sibling, for release on LIVE arcade.  At first glance, there’s not a lot on the surface of this simplistic blend of real-time strategy (RTS), puzzle, and twin-stick shooter, but hit the jump for a look into this enigmatic, relatively unknown (to console gamers) arcade title.
