In light of the rapidly approaching holidays and shopping seasons, I decided to compile a list of five games collecting dust on gamer’s shelves (mine specifically) that aren’t getting played anymore, even though their quality warrants it. It’s worth saying that this list, as with any “top five” list, is completely objective; if you have any other suggestions, post them in the comments for readers to consider. That said, it’s my opinion that these games are not only quality representatives in terms of story and mechanics, but that they often warrant multiple playthroughs. A lot of times, we set these games aside after beating them once (maybe twice on a harder difficulty) and move on to the next hot ticket. Hit the jump to see my, and Resume Play’s “Top Five Games Collecting Dust that Shouldn’t Be…”
Before I get into this, I imagine you saw the title and thought ‘What?! This guy’s clearly an idiot. Uncharted 2 is bloody awesome, keep your opinions to yourself before the wrath of the internet eats you whole.’ Bravo, you fell right into my cunning, yet journalistically clichéd trap, you poor thing. I only just finished Uncharted 2, I know, I’m a terrible person. I couldn’t start playing it until the Saturday afternoon and being such the social butterfly/part-time waiter I am, didn’t get to complete it until today.
Ahoy there, noble readers! It’s that time of year again. Black cats running wild, children knocking on your door demanding sugared treats, and all sorts of costumed freaks causing mayhem (no I’m not talking about Arkham Asylum). Halloween is coming up in a few short weeks. If you are anything like me, Halloween brings about the perfect time of year to break out the survival horror games. Although I enjoy these games year-round, there is just something about turning off the lights, cranking up the volume, and having the pewp scared out of me by a good survival horror that brings in the Halloween spirit. So click on, daring reader, for a brief rundown of how these games have evolved into what we know and love today. +Continue Reading

GTA III Introduced Players to the Idea of an Open World Sandbox
With the dawn of the new century came the dawn of a new console, the Playstation 2. A significant upgrade over its earlier iteration, the system provided developers with the power they needed to develop more involving and expansive games.
Released in 2001, Grand Theft Auto III was the first game to truly harness the power the system had to offer, and create something unique for the time. Leaving behind the 2D boundaries of its earlier brethren, GTA III took the series into 3D, and gave gamers their first true taste of an Open World Sandbox. With the arrival of the new console generation, the idea has been pushed further and further, and more and more classic franchises are taking up the mantle of “Open World Games.” The question is, are Open World Games really the future, or will they forever be hindered by their reduced ability to tell a potent story?
On a financial call this week Take Two CEO Ben Feder announced that Bioshock 2 will be released in Europe on October 30th and North America on November 3rd. The platforms for the game were listed as TBA and with E3 coming up it wouldn’t be surprising if one console got a timed exclusive. With Microsoft having a ton of money it is very likely that the 360 gamers will get to make the return to Rapture first.
