Nintendo DS Still Claiming Records

When February’s NPD numbers released, Nintendo was in for a treat when the Nintendo DS claimed more than 613,000 sales beating out last year’s record of… itself. Yes, the Nintendo DS last February, that’s after the holiday rush where millions were selling every month, took the record from itself which was originally set at 597,000. The Wii didn’t do half bad either selling around 397,000 which actually put it in second place to the Xbox 360 WHOA. So far this year, Nintendo has sold more than 1.9 million pieces of hardware in 2010 alone… in two months! They even have a new console coming out soon with the DSi XL which will be wrapped up in that DS number stated above. Technically, some people might look at that number and realize that it is two different types of DS hardware (Lite, DSi) and will be adding another to help it claim record breaking sales with the XL.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii still holds the top spot at 555,000 followed by Ubisoft’s Just Dance at No. 4 with 275,000 and Wii Sports Resort bundled with Wii MotionPlus at No.5 with 272,000 sold. It seems like everyone by now should have two DS systems and are already reserving their very own XL. Congratulations Nintendo on completely dominating the video game hardware market.

Scribblenauts 2 Coming this Fall

Scribblenauts was one of the most original games to grace the DS, and was also one of the best handheld games last year. So it comes as no surprise that 5th Cell and Warner Bros. are working on a sequel. The follow-up will hit this fall, and from the early tidbits we’ve heard, its going to push the boundaries even furuther.

The first Scribblenauts made waves for allowing gamers to use their imagination to beat challenges. The player would think up an object they wanted, write it with the stylus, and the object would appear in game. This allowed for countless ways to solve each puzzle, as well as a lot of funny moments (like creating a Vampire that chased you). The sequel not only lets you write nouns, but also adjectives. These further allow you to customize the world, since you can modify an objects’ color, size, elements and even behavior. You can even use multiple adjectives to create really crazy items, so get ready to go wild this fall!

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Trailer

The trailer for the DS release of Shin Megami Tensei gives fans a glimpse on what they can expect out of this universe. This game has a release date of March 23rd for $34.99. A cool thing about the release is that the launch copies will be bundled with a bonus CD featuring music from the game at no additional cost. The trailer looks nice and fans of the series should put this on their wish list. Check out their official website for more info on the game here.

DS & PSP—Cheats’ Games to Watch Out For

Good ol’ portable gaming.  When has a portable system not been handy?  Every incarnation of the GameBoy has gone with me everywhere.  Christmas with the family, Thanksgiving with the family, long car rides, horrible shopping trips; my handheld has always kept me entertained.  Yet, sometimes it’s hard to find a good game for it.  Thus, I have decided to compile my own list of the upcoming DS and PSP games to watch out for.  At least in my opinion that is, so hit the link to read on!

By now, everyone knows about the Kingdom Hearts series.  A game series that dared to mix Final Fantasy with Disney…and then took the world by storm.  With the expanding story line, come more questions asked.  Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days is one of two new KH games coming to hand-helds within the next few years.  This one focusing on the time frame between KH1 and two, expending and referencing Chain of Memories.  Due to the nature of it being on DS, several things were changed and remade.  Hit the link to read more.

The View From Here: Yoshi’s Island DS.

n504139329_281985_2008

A lot of us have a little one scurrying around and celebrating these days commonly called “birthdays”. On such a day, its usually expected that you buy a present such for said brother, sister, son, daughter, grandchild or whichever word is used to describe yours. In the spirit of that, I decided to ask my little brother Nathan, whom just turned 8, about the game he received for his birthday.

Things Nintendo Should Do Soon But Won’t Because They Don’t Need To

nintendo_office

Everyone knows that Nintendo is winning this competition (in shear numbers) but those seem to be dropping off in the last couple of months. I’m here to propose a list of things they should do that would help build their numbers up and start appealing to the hardcore crowd again. Now before you start to bombard me with hateful comments, all this article is is a wish list of things that I (myself, me, not the other staff members) would want to see Nintendo do so I have a reason to turn it on again, but I also understand that Nintendo cannot find the computer that they once used to develop hardcore games on, because it’s blocked by the wall of money in their offices.

Will Lego Rock Band = One Too Many?

skull_design_v2

Just look at all the new plastic instrument games coming out this year. My opinion on the matter: they are completely milking this franchise to reap every little coin they can get out of it. The sad truth though is that every one of these games are going to do not only well but great. One of these titles that has me a little concerned is the new Lego Rock Band announced for virtually everything. Will LRB be enough to hold its own weight, or will it become a waste of money for the developers?

Review: Final Fantasy IV

fflogo

I love RPGs. I really, really do. So when you take a classic game like FFIV (or FF4, which is easier to type), and then place it on the DS, I’m obviously going to get a hold of it and play it. FF4 is one that has been remade several times, I mean, when it is argued by fans to be the best one of the 15 million, it becomes obvious why it is remade. This time around, the whole thing was redone: updated graphics, new names, voice acting and all that good jazz. So of course, I had to dive immediately in.
