It’s been a few weeks since E3 and not many people are talking about Nintendo’s press conference. One of the biggest surprises was having two Mario games announced and released in one year, New Super Mario Bros. for Wii being one of them.
New Super Mario Bros Wii borrows a lot of its features from the Nintendo DS game. One thing the DS doesn’t have is 4 player CO-OP, new levels, the abilty to play as two Toad characters and Luigi. The CO-OP is also competitive, each player will be ranked on their score, number of coins collected, and enemies killed. New items such as the Propeller Suit, and the ability to change into Penguin Mario are sure to add plenty of variety. Much more info will be available closer to the game’s release date this holiday season. Be sure to check back for further updates and for now feast your eyes on these exclusive screenshots.
Although lacking in story and character depth, Valve got the right idea with Left 4 Dead. There is currently a boycott petition signed by over 20,000 people circulating right now for Left 4 Dead 2 to become a download update only. I think a whole new game is exactly what Valve needs to do to fully hook and reel the franchise fans. According to recent news about the game, they are doing all the right things, and this is why. +Continue Reading
ResumePlay’s big E3 podcast contains host Michael Perry along with Rich Matney, Matt Castelli, Sam Acton, and Stephen Rosenberg. This episode is nothing but E3, listen to our rants and our raves of the big 3 press conferences from this week. Oh, and sorry everyone for having too much Forza and Halo talk . We will return next week with the regular show.
Probably the bigger surprise for me, other than the Mario games from Nintendo’s E3, was the trailer for the latest installment from the Metroid series; Metroid Other M. Taking over from Retro Studios, Team Ninja has picked up on the series and reinvented it from it’s original first-person viewpoint, to a more third-person action game in the same way as their popular title Ninja Gaiden currently stands. From the look of the game, especially from a character perspective, seems to be reminiscence that from other Team Ninja titles, such as Dead Or Alive and Ninja Gaiden, with the latter in my opinion being an inspiration into the direction that they have chosen to take for this title, no complaints here.
Well, I may of not received the sort of news that I would of wanted to hear upon my return to the World Wide Web, but with not one, not two, but three new Mario games shown at E3; two on Wii and one on DS, I wasn’t too disheartened. I know expecting certain titles to pop up after a while isn’t the way to go, as it’ll only increase the size of the void in my gaming lifestyle even further if it doesn’t happen year in and year out, so I’ll just have to appreciate what I receive, and take it. Now that that’s out of the system, Nintendo is back to reasonably good form, certainly a big improvement on last years below-par showing anyway.
The Microsoft keynote is over, and all I can say is WOW! I will be posting a complete wrap up of the conference later but here is a sneak peek of the Motion Sensing Camera announced by Microsoft, Project Natal.
In anticipation of E3 I figured I would put together a series of games that I would like to see, most are a long shot hence the title but still possible.
