Playstation Move: The Playstation Motion Controller

(UPDATED: Better Pictures uploaded.)
Sony held a press conference at GDC today and announced the official name of their motion controller, “Playstation Move”. The peripheral itself looks mostly the same as the E3 demo we got last year. It still has the “ball” on the top with a lot of different colors. It also has a nun-chuck like peripheral that you hold in your other hand. This is officially called The PlayStation Move Subcontroller…thats not very catchy!!!

There were various demos showing off the Playstation Move. One game that was demoed was called “Sports Champions”, which is basically Sony’s version of Wii Sports. A Gladiator Arena game was shown with the player battling a AI player. This looked a lot like the sword fighting in Wii Sports Resort. I really couldn’t tell any difference between the Wii Motion Plus and Playstation Move…Move looked almost identical to what Motion Plus offers.

Move Party is another game which is just a bunch of mini games from painting inside the lines and other party games. Also shown was a co-op version of Little Big Planet where one player plays sack boy and the other player uses the motion controller to move the environment to help out his buddy. It looked pretty cool and has some great physics from the LBP games.

They also showed off the Move interacting with the Eye Pet games. It was extremely disturbing…the playstation eye takes the players and puts them in the background on the tv with the eye pet in front. The little monkey was dancing to the music and interacting to the kids using the move while Owl City’s “Fireflies” played in the background. VERY DISTURBING!!!

Socom 4 will completely support the Playstation Move. You will be able to play through from start to finish using the Move. This looked pretty good on screen but extremely uncomfortable for the player. Zipper working on this title is promising but it just doesn’t look comfortable at all.

The “Starter Kit” will include a Playstation Eye, a game, and the Playstation Move for under 100 Dollars.

Also on a side note, Sony confirmed that Gran Turismo 5 will ship this year!

Note: Sony pointed out that the version demoed is a Pre-Alpha. So there is a lot more developing to go. Once videos become available we will have those posted so stay tuned!

Greed Corp Coming to XBLA February 24th and PSN 25th

The turn based strategy game from W! Games finally has a release date. The game will be hitting the Xbox Live Arcade on Feb. 24th and the Playstation Network on the 25th. This game looks very interesting with a great art style and strong universe. The game looks to be a lot like some of the better strategy games like Civ Revolution and Catan. I have really been looking forward to this title and can’t wait to get my hands on it. Check the screenshots out below and also take a look at this trailer.

Games This Week: February 1st – February 7th

Not much going on this week in the land of video games. While there aren’t many games releasing there are still a few of them that are worth checking out. Star Trek Online, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. , and White Knight Chronicles are all fairly big releases and all have the potential to be great games. Although, it might be best to save your money for next week considering that Bioshock 2 and Dante’s Inferno are both releasing!

Here are the games for this week!

Games This Week: January 25th – January 31st

Well this week there are a TON of games getting released along with a couple of DLC packs. The biggest being Mass Effect 2, MAG and the first DLC for Assassin’s Creed II. I personally have been looking forward to ME2 for a long time and all these other games are getting put on hold for that. Although if you have a PS3 MAG is definitely worth looking into. Since it is a game based around online multiplayer it would probably be a good idea to wait a week or so to jump in because there will more than likely be server issues. On the Wii side of things we have the fan favorite No More Heroes 2. So for you Wii fans heres a hardcore game that might pull you away from wii fit and whatever else it is you do with that thing… Check out the rest of the games below!

Gears of War available on Games on Demand

If you have 6gb spared on your Xbox 360 hard drive then you’ll be able to download the original Gears of War from games on demand. The downloads gonna set you back 20 dollars and its almost a guarantee that at your local games store you’ll find it for cheaper than that. But who wants to go outside? It’s so much easier to grab the game from the comfort of your own couch. This move by Microsoft is inevitably just a marketing ploy to get you thinking about Gears again so that way when they announce Gears 3 next year you won’t be so surprised. What! OMGZ! We are sure that Mr. Bleszinski will throw a parade…or something.

Why Michael Atkinson’s Campaign Is A Waste Of Time and Money

michael-atkinson-mugshot

You’ve probably already heard of a man called Micheal Atkinson, and if you’re an Australian gamer then you more than likely hate the hipocritical twat more than anyone. He is the attorney-general of South Australia, a position with an unfortunately large amount of power, and the one of the most hated men in the minds of gamers. Due to this man’s stupid vendetta against games, developers must constantly delay & censor their games before they finally get to the Australian market or get outright banned all together.

Horrible Game Worlds To Live In

horrible-title

Most people want to escape reality, saying that they would love to live in the world of video games and other fantasy genres of the sort. However not all of the worlds are cupcakes and sunshine, and some are downright deadly to live in. With the current generation filled with games like Fallout and the upcoming Darksiders, I thought I would point out just these few.

Five movie/book plots that COULD make great games.

30daysheader

It is no secret to the gaming world that games based on movies…for the most part, suck horribly. I can’t count on two hands the amount of games that are crapped out into the gaming industry and stockpiled onto the shelves of our favorite over-pricing electronic retail stores. These aren’t just games shelled out to make money for blockbuster summer hits like Iron Man, and Pirates of the Caribbean. I’m talking about games that are awful movies, and make the unsurprising transition into awful game. These games appear on every system, from Charlie’s Angels on PS2, to Lethal Weapon on NES. I think there is a major problem with the way the games are made, but I also think that if you’re going to make a video-game based on a movie or story, it should be one that would transfer over well. Here are five movie/story plots that could make excellent games if designed correctly.
