I’ve got friends that say they are “over the zombie fad”. The truth is, zombies have always been an integral part of this society’s horror game and movie industry. I wasn’t impressed with Dead Rising, or the crazy amount of zombie games leading up to it. I liked Resident Evil 4 & 5, but those weren’t exactly zombies, were they? In 2008, Valve finally unleashed a zombie game I was proud to own, although I did have small problems with repetitiveness and shortness in length. Left 4 Dead 2 has been trying to prove its worth since it was announced back at this year’s E3. This time round Valve is now offering five new campaigns and two new game modes, one of which is Scavenge mode. So when I saw that Eurogamer had this mode ready to play (as Survivors or Infected), I would of gladly hit several people with a frying pan to play it.
Although lacking in story and character depth, Valve got the right idea with Left 4 Dead. There is currently a boycott petition signed by over 20,000 people circulating right now for Left 4 Dead 2 to become a download update only. I think a whole new game is exactly what Valve needs to do to fully hook and reel the franchise fans.
