New 3D Dot Game Heroes Video

Atlus today released their latest trailer for their upcoming retro action-adventure called “The Most Interesting Hero in 3D.” The video centers around the hero and why he is the most interesting hero in 3D. 3D Dot Heroes looks quite good and should deliver that retro charm that old school fans would definitely enjoy. Check out our preview of the game here and you can check out their website for the latest news here.

Mega Man 10 Vintage Commercial

A throwback to the old amazing video game commercials we don’t get the privilege of seeing anymore because commercials for video games are nothing but CGI scenes that don’t show anything from the game. I would rather see this kid’s TV attack him; Capcom really knows how to tickle your retro spot with throwbacks like these. Has anybody actually seen this ran on TV? Please leave feedback if you have. GET MEGA THIS MARCH.

Mega Man 10: Tons of Screenshots and News

I’ll be the first to admit this was a shocker to me that Mega Man 10 will also be in the style of Mega Man 9. This surprised me at how well they sold which shouldn’t come at no surprise to any hardcore Mega Man fan because they best ones were on the 8-bit and 16-bit consoles (yes 16-bit, love the X series as well.) Again, Mega Man 10 will be available on Nintendo WiiWare, Xbox Live, and Playstation Network. Music has always been a huge factor in the Mega Man games and Mega Man 9 has some very memorable tracks; hopefully they will continue this with great new tracks from the new game.

What could this game possibly be about? Well, robots are pissed off and it takes Mega Man to wipe them all out. A suspicious outbreak of Roboenza has broken out which is some sort of Robot Flu (sounds suspiciously like MM9.) This drives all the robots crazy destroying everything in their path and mega man needs to stop them. Yes the story is dumb and ironically used before already but who the hell cares when you are standing on your very last foot pixel trying to time this jump perfectly, the gameplay is what drives many gamers back to these games and that what it all comes down to. One new mode that might make a few mad is an easy mode to help new fans ease their way into these harder type of games. A couple more updates include the ability to play as Proto Man from the very beginning as your main character and a Mega Man challenge mode which allows players to practice the adventure ahead of them.

That’s all the info I’ve got on this game but hit the jump and feast your eyes on this bountiful amount of screenshots including pack-art, concept art of the eight new Mega Man weapons, and plenty of other 8-bit goodness.

Where are they now? – Sunset Riders

GetAttachment.aspx

Hello everyone, and thank you for checking out the newest edition of Resume Play’s “Where are they now?” This week, we look a little closer at four of the rootinest, tootinest, ass-kicking cowboy bounty hunters of the west. In 1991, Konami formed the team of Billy, Steve, Bob, and Cormano in the name of good. The Sunset Riders took saddle and made their presence known to the SNES world. Their mission…bring in the scoundrel known as Richard Rose, dead or alive. Being that it only takes about a total of 45 minutes to do so, here is what our beloved bounty collectors have been up to since. +Continue Reading

Awesome Mario Paint Video Game Songs

mario paint--article_image

Who would have thought a game like Mario Paint could have a feature that gamers still use today. Searching around on the internet shows some amazing talent compiling some impressive songs using only the tools within this “painting” game. If you haven’t seen any of these, I believe you will be shocked at how close they can make these sound with the originals. If you cannot find your favorite, leave a comment with the link to others that are great; otherwise hit the jump for these awesome renditions of hopefully some of your favorite pieces of video game music.

Retro Review: Legend of Zelda – The Minish Cap

headerIn 2003, Nintendo unleashed a new face of our beloved hero Link (or was it?) to the world with Wind Waker. With great reviews of the game, and mixed critics on Link’s new look, Nintendo decided to take a chance and bank on the fact that every Zelda game has been a best-seller.  In 2005, Nintendo kept the new Link getup, and teamed with Capcom to create the next installment in the Zelda series. Releasing it for only the Game-boy Advance, the game was greeted with amazing reviews but passed through the gaming world swiftly and quietly. Click below to see my retro review on probably the most underrated Zelda game up-to-date. +Continue Reading

Retro PC: Wolfenstein 3D

wolf3d_scr4

Wolfenstein 3d (or Wolf3d) was the game that popularized First-Person-Shooters, and evolved the gaming industry into what it is today. It was inspired by a 1980s game made by Muse Software called Castle Wolfenstein. The full game consisted of 60 levels, with 10 levels per episode; the shareware version only included the 1st episode. I bought the shareware disk for $1.07 about 15 years ago. 3 years after I bought it, my old computer crashed and took my saved games with it. As I was looking through my old computer disks, I luckily found the disk and decided to buy the full version. I downloaded DOSBox and mounted my games directory. I selected my difficulty level as ‘Bring ‘em on’ and began my new game. I know I should have gone for it with ‘I am death incarnate’ but it’s been a while.  +Continue Reading

Where are they now? – Mallow & Geno

GetAttachment.aspx

Hello everyone, and welcome to a new weekly addition to the Resume Play repertoire. Does anyone know what night club Billy and Jimmy from Double Dragon are bouncing for? What about the post office management position the original Paperboy has acquired? Is Chef Peter Pepper ever going to make enough burgers before being foiled by the triad of terror known as Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Pickle, and Mr. Egg? These are questions that the public must know, and they are the questions that I have set out to find, and post my discoveries each week for you all to see. Goodwill Hunting – Famiclones

famiclones-header

Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE cheap Korean knockoff crap, I drive a Rio for God’s sake. What I am looking at today are two of my favorite impulse buys. Although plagued with problems, these systems offer twice the bang for your buck, but do the problems out-weigh the savings?

The Lasting Effect of the Retro Genres

sam_and_max1
What a year gaming has been for us. We have seen some fantastic new ideas these past couple of years but there is no denying the fact that retro ideas play a huge effect in new concepts. These genres just recently started showing back up with re-releases and entirely new games to further help keep retro games alive.

The Retro Vault: Dragon’s Lair

Had you been loitering around arcades back in 1983, you’d have seen an astonishing looking game called Dragon’s Lair. Grabbing some change from the kiosk, you’d immediately rush over to the machine, shovel in all your cash and quickly realise why no one else was playing it… Dragon’s Lair’s incredibly cartoon-like visuals (created by ex-Disney animator Don Bluth) came with a very high price – gameplay.
