Change is in the Air

Its been just about about 5 years since the Xbox 360 was released and 4 years since Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii have been on store shelves.  Some are already talking about the announcement of the eighth generation console(s) coming as soon as this E3; some say it’ll happen next year and few say it might not even happen anytime soon.  Either way — new consoles or not — change is always coming.  With Sony repeating the idea that they are “future proof”, and as expensive as their console is (or ‘was’ depending on your preference) you can count on it lasting you for at least a decade. I think it’s safe to say there won’t be an announcement from Sony anytime soon for a Playstation 4 and Nintendo seems to be content with their stance in the market at the moment.  So if there was an announcement of a new console coming soon most will suspect it will be Microsoft; while many beg to differ with the approach of the “Natal”  release and some speculate that it wouldn’t be that far-fetched of an idea if Microsoft was already planning on a next-gen console to release as soon as 2011 or 2012 with Natal compatibility.

Playstation Move Doesn’t Support 4 Complete Players (According to Sony)

After a recent article speculating about the possible price of the Playstation Move, Gizmodo contacted Sony and asked them to clarify a few things about the Move, and how the “wands” and sub controllers actually connect to the PS3. Here is what Gizmodo was told by Sony.

Sony said, “Playstation Move doesn’t support 4 players in its full configuration”. A complete player needs at least TWO move wands, or ONE wand and ONE sub controller. So the Gladiator game in Sports Champions requires Two Wands for one player, but sony only allows 7 bluetooth connections at once. So the possibility of having 4 players with 8 wands is out of the question.

What makes this different from the Wii is that the nunchuck is wired to the wii-mote making both only one connection.

Sony also confirmed this: “Four PlayStation Move controllers can connect to a PS3 at one time (or two PlayStation Move Controllers and 2 PlayStation Move sub-controllers).”

This doesn’t mean there won’t be 4 players games for the Move, but they would only be using one wand per player. Which really hampers what developers have to work with.

UPDATED: Playstation Move Is Going To Be Expensive

Updated: According to Sony, you can only connect up to 4 Move wands at once. Sony confirmed that the move can only have up to 4 move wands at once connected or 2 wands and 2 sub controllers. Meaning you would only have the need for 2 Sub Controllers Max. If you buy the starter pack for 100 dollars (which comes with 1 wand, the eye, and a game). You only need to purchase 3 more wands and 2 sub sub controllers to have the “full” experience available. If a Wand is 40 dollars and a sub controller is 20 dollars that would bring the total price for the full experience to around 260 dollars. This is significantly less than our previous speculation, but once again even these numbers are just speculation. We should have more concrete info come E3.

Ok…so Sony has really let the cat out of the bag on all their Move info. One piece on info they bestowed on us is that the Move is going to have a starter bundle that will have One Playstation Eye and One Move (which is the wand with the ball on the end). So that sort of got me thinking how much would it cost to get a complete move experience for all 4 players? Gizmodo did some mental math and broke this down using logical pricing. Here is what they came up with.

SOCOM 4 Screenshots lookin Good

We just got a new batch of SOCOM 4 screenshots, and the game is looking damn good. Sony also announced this week that SOCOM 4 can be fully-played with the new PlayStation Move controller (or a standard controller, of course). Looks like this’ll be another big game for a system on the rise.

Sports Champions and Move Party Screenshots

Both Sports Champions and Move Party could be the pack in game that comes with the Playstation Move. Sports Champions is basically Sony’s version of Wii Sports. The Gladiator Arena game was shown off and it didn’t look much different than what the Wii offers with the sword fighting. Move Party looks a lot like Microsoft’s Your In The Movies and has a ton of different mini games based around a party setting.

“The Shoot” Screenshots

Yet another of Playstation Move’s launch titles. This game is basically a shooting gallery game where you shoot robots, cowboys, and other baddies using the wand portion of the Move. This game didn’t really those much precision and looked very much like a Wii mini game. Hopefully this game evolves a little bit and becomes more than just a shooting gallery. Check out the screens below!

Eye Pet Screenshots and Details

Eye Pet is now confirmed to be a Playstation Move title. The game lets players interact with a small animal on screen while the Playstation Eye puts the player in the background on the tv. It is sort of hard to explain and is much easier to see in screenshots. So here ya go.

First Playstation Move Ad Video

Well…here is the first marketing video for the Move. Once again…that little monkey is the devil I tell you!

New Interface For Playstation Home Coming Tomorrow

Sony has decided to take their XMB (Cross Media Bar) interface and apply it to their online area called Playstation Home. The XMB interface is much easier to navigate and this is an attempt by Sony to make their online space more streamlined and easy to navigate, thus making a better Home experience. This probably won’t be the only piece of Sony news we get today from GDC so check back for more news and screens of the new interface once they become available!

Bull$hit Article of the Week: Fanboys Wanted

*Disclaimer: Nothing in this Article should be Taken Seriously, Including this Disclaimer.*

Microsoft has announced some big news this week for fans of the Xbox 360: they are launching an aggressive new hiring policy aimed at recruiting hardcore fanboys into the Microsoft family. Most of the new hires will be part of a large think-tank that will provide more detailed customer feedback, suggest new ideas for the future, and write witty comebacks to Sony’s claims of superior graphics. But some will be pulled into the management structure itself, replacing dozens of employees who were fired last week due to their “lack of faith in the system.”

Zipper Developing SOCOM 4 on PS3

After releasing MAG earlier this year, Zipper is now back to developing the SOCOM series. Sony is no doubt happy with the reception of MAG and is giving the developer another shot at revitalizing the struggling SOCOM series. The game will have a fully featured single player but with their last game being all multiplayer it’s pretty safe to say that multi will also be a big focus for SOCOM 4.

So I am going to call it right now…SOCOM will have 257 player BATTLES!!! (joking)

What Needs to Happen to the PSP Go in 2010

A while back I wrote an article containing my reasons why the PSP Go will fail. I unfortunately was mostly right about a lot of the issues and how they would turn out once the hardware was available to the public. It’s great that Sony is taking the plunge by making the Go completely downloadable only, but sales have not yet proven this system has the life to carry on. Hit the jump for some changes the PSP Go needs to make and highlight some of the games coming out that could potentially turn this system around.
