It was rumored a while back that a new Tecmo Bowl game would be making its way to Xbox and PS3. Now it is finally official with Tecmo releasing the details and even some screenshots on Tecmo Bowl Throwback. The game will feature new updated graphics but will have the ability to switch back and forth between the old school and new school looks sort of like Monkey Island did last year.
Most importantly it will have online multiplayer and even leaderboards! It also has customizable teams and rosters and will feature 32 teams in total. All 3 game modes from the original will also be returning so you can play an entire season or just head out for the pro bowl. The game will be releasing some time this spring but for now you can check out the screens below!
The trick about making a puzzle/platformer with a new twist is two-fold: one, the developer has to make the puzzles hard enough to challenge the gamer, but also not so impossible to make the gamer quit in frustration. Two, the twist has to be something simple enough to succeed, but new enough to be fresh to a quickeningly stale gaming commmunity. The Odd Gentlemen, the freshman studio behind Winterbottom’s development, clearly understands this formula- despite making their own subtle modifications. Hit the jump, Buttwit, for ResumePlay’s review of XBLA’s pie-stealing, silent film era art game, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom.
Greed Corps is a RTS for XBLA that is unique in many ways. It creates tension in the game by forcing players to deal with terrain that is, well, destroying itself. Wholly an endurance game, and set up for multiplayer use, it is intriguing and unfortunately flawed.
GoldenEye and Perfect Dark are considered two of the best shooters ever made, and we’ve been clamoring for remakes for years. While GoldenEye is still MIA, we’re finally getting an overhauled Perfect Dark this year. On March 17th the HD version will launch on XBLA for a sweetly priced 800 MS points ($10). Read on for a full preview of the game and its changes!
Darwinia, as a PC game, has been around since 2005 on both Mac and Windows systems. It has garnered quite the cult following, which prompted developer Introversion Software to remodel the game, and its multiplayer sibling, for release on LIVE arcade. At first glance, there’s not a lot on the surface of this simplistic blend of real-time strategy (RTS), puzzle, and twin-stick shooter, but hit the jump for a look into this enigmatic, relatively unknown (to console gamers) arcade title.
The turn based strategy game from W! Games finally has a release date. The game will be hitting the Xbox Live Arcade on Feb. 24th and the Playstation Network on the 25th. This game looks very interesting with a great art style and strong universe. The game looks to be a lot like some of the better strategy games like Civ Revolution and Catan. I have really been looking forward to this title and can’t wait to get my hands on it. Check the screenshots out below and also take a look at this trailer.
This game looks very interesting. Like a lot of PSN and XBLA titles it seems to have a character to it that many full releases don’t. For now all we have is the trailer but keep checking back for more info!
According to a EA press release today, Risk: Factions is coming to Xbox Live Arcade in early 2010. From the same developers of Magic the Gathering for XBLA, Risk: Factions is supposed to have “new gameplay features” and challenge new and old Risk players. “We’re now going to bring that masterpiece experience to life and add other amazing layers of XBLA-style gameplay that will take conquests to a new level, including the ability to battle players from around the globe for the first time, truly giving new meaning to the phrase world domination,” said Chip Lange, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA’s Hasbro Division. Rumors have been flying and ESPN reports that EA sports has acquired the NBA Jam license and is working on a new NBA Jam. The catch is that according to the report it is only going to be available on the Wii. Although, there are other reports which suggest the game will also get the XBLA and PSN treatment along with a Wii retail release. The creator of the original NBA Jam now works for EA and is said to be collaborating on the project. This isn’t EA’s first time at a arcade basketball game, if you remember the “Street” series that EA used to do. Some of those were pretty good games and I am sure that this reboot is going to fill that void. It also could have to do with the success of the more arcade version of Madden that is available on the Wii. Remember this is just a rumor and we will post when more concrete details emerge.
For anyone still playing the XBLA and PSN title, Inferno Pool, developer Dark Energy Digital has released a series of YouTube videos which offer some help for the game’s more advanced maneuvers and modes. Hit the jump for the video links. +Continue Reading
The old saying goes something like, “easy to pick-up, hard to master.” This adage is proven fully in Inferno Pool, the fast-paced billiards game from Dark Energy Digital (www.darkenergydigital.com/inferno.php). The game features a variety of customizable game modes which challenge the speed at which the player can pocket balls. Speed isn’t the only factor though, since the game also tracks trick points for bank shots, jump shots, and other difficult moves.
What a crazy idea for a video game; Fret Nice is a platform style game that is played with a guitar controller. “We felt sorry for gamers who bought a guitar only to be used for pure music games, so we made a platform game for them! Fret Nice is the perfect blend of two worlds.” – says Pieces Interactive CEO Johan Hellberg. Fret Nice is being developed by Pieces, a Swedish developer that has gained popularity with their quirky games like Puzzlegeddon. If everything goes as planned, we can expect this downloadable game on XBLA and PSN in early 2010. Check after the break for screenshots. +Continue Reading
