Many of you have already heard of Tomonobu Itagaki, the master developer from Tecmo’s Team Ninja. He was responsible for the Dead or Alive franchise and the new Ninja Gaiden games, both of which are top-tier hardcore series with huge fanbases. But after all that success, Itagaki got in a very public feud with his bosses. He quit Tecmo and took them to court over unpaid bonus and overtime wages, and many of his fellow developers followed suit.
That lawsuit was finally settled out of court last week, and Itagaki is wasting no time in moving on. He just announced that he has created a new studio called Valhalla Game Studios. The studio, which supposedly employs many of his former Team Ninja co-workers, will be working on a new title in a new genre, according to Itagaki.
Transformers is one of the those franchises that should make for the perfect game. It features non-stop action, tons of giant robots, and each robot has its own vehicle forms and special weapons and abilities. Yet the recent games have been mediocre at best, probably due to being movie tie-ins. But in the wake of Batman: Arkham Asylum’s success, High Moon Studios is hoping to make an awesome franchise game that can win back the old fans.
That’s right all you 20+ year-old Harry Potter fans out there, listen up. Alpha Protocol is one of those 2008/2009 games that got delayed repeatedly into the now-packed 2010 spring window. But if you haven’t heard of this one before, you might want to start paying attention now, because its coming out on June 1st on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Alpha Protocol eschews the traditional fantasy and space settings of RPG’s, using instead an international espionage story as its basis. Resumeplay will give you a full preview when we get closer to the launch date, but for now we’ve got a new trailer, new screenshots and a brief introduction to the game.
We’re only a few months away from the launch of Capcom’s big sci-fi shooter, Lost Planet 2, and they’ve released some more screenshots to wet our appetites. The screens are from two of the map packs that will be available for the game, called Back to the Island and Helix. We’ve also got some of the top screens that have been out previously for the title, in case you missed them in all of their orange-spotted glory.
Something weird was released to the Xbox community today called Avatar Boogie. I had to look into this to see what exactly what it was and it turned out different than what I thought. Avatar Boogie is a virtual dance floor for up to fifty avatars. You basically watch them dance to music by artists like Bjorn Lynne, Ahura Z. Diliiza, Jemery Sherman, and Pierre Langer (sadly, never heard of these people.) The good news is that you can upload your own music for them to dance to but that explains the whole thing. Sounds like a great idea for a party instead of watching logs on fire or something else along those lines… Now dance Avatars… DANCE!!!
This game is the breath of fresh air the series needed. I remember back when this title was first announced and the screens of shaggy haired Sam Fisher that shortly followed. Today Fisher looks very different, and it looks like the developers are trying to totally redefined the series. For the last couple years a lot of designers were trying to find a way to keep your HUD totally clean so that you can have a fluid and visually pleasurable experience with the game; also giving you a level of immersion that game developers always try to hit on. I think the team at Ubisoft Montreal are probably doing it the best with Splinter Cell Conviction.
Don’t be tricked by the title, it’s merely the words I’m using to describe my analysis of Mass Effect 2. It’s a no-brainer that the sequel would have various improvements and new control schemes. However, are all of these improvements or are some of them faux pas? Hit the link for my humble critique and opinion of ME2.
Konami today announces the sequel to the one of Xbox 360’s first popular titles Ninety-Nine Nights. The follow up is said to contain all new content, characters, and will continue the story right where the original ended. NII2 will be playable through multiple perspectives including humans, elves, and goblins. Action games are all the craze these days and this series seems to take elements from many of them including the Devil May Cry and Dynasty Warrior series. Oh, and the developer handling this game is Konami… Win.
Hundreds of enemies could fill the screen at once which is parallel to the Dynasty Warriors series. At the end of each set stage, players will fight some monstrosity of a boss which is said in the press release that the player will have to find their weak spot (I suggest it will be glowing.) The sequel will also have a two player co-op online mode which is always good news for about every game. You can expect this game to hit on the vague release date of Spring 2010.
Final Fantasy XIII is just around the corner and to help drive sales of this game toward the Xbox 360 is the release of this console + game bundle. There will be two different bundles included: the Special Edition and the Elite Bundle, both are available for pre-order now and will be available on FFXIII release day of March 9th.
The special Edition bundle includes a 250GB hard drive with engravings on the Hard Drive itself along with two wireless controller, Avatar downloadable items including one Rosch Outfit, One Nabaat Outfit and a Chocobo pet (exclusive to this bundle only), and a copy of the game itself. As an added pre-order bonus, you will also receive a Limited Edition Faceplate designed by the legendary character designer from many Final Fantasy games Tetsuya Nomura. These are only available in small doses so I suggest if you want one you go put down the pre-order immediately. The less than exciting Elite Bundle includes a 120GB black Hard Drive, one Wireless Controller and a copy of Final Fantasy XIII.
Well then, I believe we’re all getting excited for Halo Reach coming out here soon. Game Informer just did a cover story and released some juicy details for everyone. Trying to spread the news as far and wide as possible, here’s what I’ve gathered. Maybe you’ve read it before, maybe you haven’t, but here’s a quick run-down for info.
Another year in gaming has finally come to pass, and I”m not sure that I could really ask for a better one. The year started out with fantastic releases, continued to shovel them out through the summer, and ended the year with a crucial big-bang of best-sellers to knock us all on our butts. I can safetly say that this has been one of the best (and most anticipated) years in gaming to hit us in a long time. I purchased so many games that I’ve yet to complete them all. However, the main answer to the question we all want to ask remains to be seen. In a year chock-full of amazing games, which one reigns supreme above the rest? Here are the top three picks from some of Resume Play’s staff for 2009’s Game of the Year award +Continue Reading
